The early D17 Diesel had a CLM filter. CLM stood for Cartridge Lube Metal canister style filter... and that was full flow. Regular 10W30 oil is what we use, When we got our tractors we went to an Allis dealer who has been around for nearly 70yrs and they said use 10W30 because it gives the best lubricating properties. Do not use a noin detergent oil. When Deere's new tractor needed the hydraulic oil to be the transmission/hydraulic /wet brakes/final drive oil, oil scientists came up with what we call "303" oil that was able to take care of all of these components.The transmission, rear end, and final drives are lubed with gear lube; usually 80W90. The hydraulics are serviced with any good brand of universal hydraulic fluid. Originally the hydraulics were serviced with engine oil.
