It's a pain to install the manual one and is not worth the risk if you F up the install or the maintenance. I'll let others comment, but that's my 2 cents. I just installed mine in February. I think castrol is about the best synthetic out there but if you find one better it is not too late to change brands so long as it is a full synthetic brand.

I replace oil and filter, pour in 2.5 qrts. Start bike for 2 minutes and turn off. I hold bike straight up, after it's sat 5 minutes. and fill to middle /top line in glass while holding bike straight up. If you're buying oil just get 4 qrts, just because :grin.
