Yeah, it depends on playstyle for the two. I would use a Gauss if I were going stealth but a laser musket with crits because the Gauss needs to be charged to do the total damage displayed and iirc that doesn't occur in vats. But crank up the laser musket 6 times and go for a critical head shot and it hurts. Both are fun late game guns.

The bonuses are largely similar, but the Laser Muskets’ mods are a bit different to suit it’s style. The Crank Capacitors are modified as well, adding 5% of reload speed each, up to +20% reload speed with the six-crank capacitor. So if a laser musket has the "never ending" legendary mod added to it there is a potential for untold amounts of damage Bug/Problem: When reloaded above the "max ammo capacity" (for example reloaded above six cranks on a six crank musket), it will deplete ALL ammo regardless of cranks used. If only the initial crank counts, it'd still be fairly useful for one second of Uber defense after each shot. Would likely at least save me now and then with the one crank, but with six I'd be able to get a bit more offensive. The laser musket is poorly designed. First, it uses micro fusion cells, while in itself isn't bad, but there's no reload animation to explain how they are loaded in.
