I don't own a Browning, but just recently purchased a 9422 XTR Classic. The Classic came with a pistol grip butt stock and steel cresent butt plate. Mine dates to about '85 or '86. This variation of the 9422 was only made for about 2 1/2 years or so.

With the Winchester, you get all-steel construction, including the beautifully machined and finished action, a 1.75-inch-longer barrel, checkered walnut, slight additional weight, a bit more accuracy, and a slightly better sight picture.
A Winchester 9422, the old model that has no checkering. It was made in 1975. My Marlin is the model 39A and was made in 1965. I love them both, however I find that the Winchester has a little better metal polishing and a better blue job than the Marlin. The Winchester also has a much smoother operating lever.
