Pulling out the 40A tailgate motor fuse effectively disables the power tailgate functionality; I just moved it to an unused slot in the fuse box. Although I do get a light on the dash saying "tailgate", this does solve the problem. Ask the body shop to check on your rear (proximity/distant) sensors and make sure they are all working. Apparently, if the rear sensors sound off (activated), the liftgate function is disabled.
