Disconnect the shifter linkage/cable and shift the gears on the trans just to make sure its not something on your valve body thats stuck. If thats fine make sure your brake switch is working, if it somehow moved then it wont release the switch to release the lock.

An issue today for my wife. She could not get the shifter to move from park to reverse. Parking brake released, foot on brake… nothing. I hopped in turned key off and back on, shifter still would not move. Playing with the knob I just happened to slightly push down and the rotary shifter then moved out of park and into reverse.

So far, the only thing I’ve found that consistently works is to allow the shift knob to cool down and also gently rotate the knob back and forth. There is a couple a screws and the other is white its a b!tch to get under there but it's there.I have a 2019 heavy duty cummins 2500 with column shifter and the truck only has 600 miles on it and at least once a day the shifter gets stuck in park. The only way to fix it is to shut the truck off and turn it back on again. Has anyone else ever run into this problem and know what the fix is? Its quite annoying.
