The distributor will need to be switched to a non-computer control HEI when you switch to a carburetor. Not all HD engines have the quadrajet to TBI adapter plate. My personal opinion, the TBI system just needs to pump more fuel/air into a performance 454. The quadrajet and HEI are the least expensive, provided good used parts are available.

You need to regulate the factory fuel pump down to 7 psi, its set at 12 right now. You need a 86 and later intake with the four center intake bolts that are angled different.
